Where did my memory go?

I just installed memory modules in my Dell Dimension 8250. I went from 1 GB to 2GB of RAM. the machine worked great for about 3 weeks but now it's back to craawwllllinnggg again. HOw do I get this machine to run faster. It appears that just adding RAM was not the trick.
