i forgot windows xp password.....i have very important data in that computer....i am not get the solution for this...please can anyone help me in this,,,,,i have searced in the net and downloaded the "active password changer" software.....i installed this in my computer...it is showing the user accounts but when i am trying to reset the password...it is asking me to buy that software........can anyone show me the solution...please... i have very important data in that computer.if possible u can mail me on [ santu78j | at | indiatimes.com.......tHANK YOU BYE

Windows XP Login Recovery - Window password recovery within minutes.

That site will get you your original password, not change it. You must have access to your computer through another account though, or it won't work.

If you don't have access, it's pretty much impossible to recover your password. You'll have to reboot but seeing as you have important information in it, I'm sure that's not an option.

Recovering a user's password

If you forget your password on a computer that is part of a workgroup or is a stand-alone computer, check your password hint. (Your password hint is located on the Welcome screen beside the password prompt.)

If you have a password reset disk, you can use it to create a new password for your account. Your personalized computer settings will be retained. For more information about using the Forgotten Password Wizard to create a password reset disk, click Related Topics.

If your password hint does not help you remember your password and you did not create a password reset disk, you will need to have someone with a computer administrator account create a new password for you. For security reasons, a computer administrator cannot recover your password if you forget it; he or she can only create a new one for you.

• A user with a computer administrator account can create or change passwords for all users on the computer. Users with limited accounts can create and change their own passwords, as well as create password hints.

To access the local user account through a password reset disk

If you made a password reset disk for your local user account through the Forgotten Password Wizard, you can use it to access the computer, even if you have forgotten your password. The following steps will only work if you are in a workgroup environment, using the Welcome screen.
For information about accessing the local user account through a password reset disk in a domain environment, click Related Topics.

1. At the Welcome screen, click your user name, and then type your password. If you have forgotten your password, the Did you forget your password message is displayed.
2. Click use your password reset disk to start the Password Reset Wizard.
3. Follow the instructions in the Password Reset Wizard to create a new password.
4. Log on with the new password, and then store your password reset disk in a safe place in case you need it to reset your password in the future. You do not need to make a new password reset disk. To create a password reset disk

The Forgotten Password Wizard lets you create a password reset disk that you can use to recover your user account and personalized computer settings if you forget your password.

The steps to perform this task differ depending on whether your computer is a member of a network domain or is part of a workgroup (or is a stand-alone computer)

My computer is on a domain

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Security dialog box.
2. Click Change Password.
3. Click Backup to open the Forgotten Password Wizard.
4. Click Next and then follow the instructions as they appear on the screen.

My computer is not on a domain

The steps to perform this task differ depending on the type of user account you have.

If you have a computer administrator account

1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
2. Click your account name.
3. Under Related Tasks located on the left side of the window, click Prevent a forgotten password.
4. In the Forgotten Password Wizard, follow the instructions as they appear on the screen.

If you have a limited account

1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
2. Under Related Tasks located on the left side of the window, click Prevent a forgotten password.
3. In the Forgotten Password Wizard, follow the instructions as they appear on the screen.

Try using administrator account... but if he made his files private then well..oh well...

The best thing you can do. That is you can disconnect motherboard battery from motherboard 15 min. after then attach your battery on motherboard. then start your computer all pass ward will be disable.

Use a password reset disk
Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional
1. Restart the computer.
2. On the Windows XP logon screen, click the user name that you want to use, and then press ENTER.

Note You receive the following error message:
Did you forget your password? You can click the “?” button to see your password hint. Or you can use your password reset disk. Please type your password again. Be sure to use the correct uppercase and lowercase letters.
3. Click Use your password reset disk.
4. In the Password Reset Wizard dialog box, click Next.
5. Insert the password reset disc into the CD drive, and then click Next.
6. Type a new password in the Type a new password box, and then type the password again in the Type the password again to confirm box.
7. In the Type a new password hint box, type a hint for the password, and then click Next.
8. Click Finish, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.
