Lagging and Lockup

about a week ago i changed my performance settings to "adjust for best performance" i changed my settings so i can get the best performance while gaming. after the change and reboot i started to play solitaire in full screen the sound was very choppy and the cards would lag. i then went back to my performance settings and changed it back to "let windows choose whats best for my computer". i continued to play solitaire and the entire system locked up with a glitching sound over and over. so i went ahead and reboot. then i played a dvd movie in full screen and same thing happened. and then i ran windows update hoping there might be a fix, and there was SP1, after allt he updates, including video, audio, keyboard and mice updates, i still have the same problem.

when i play solitaire in full screen or watch dvd movies or just mpeg videos i get major lag and glitchy sound that ends up to a lock up. here is my system specs off of DX
