File Open/Save Window Way Tooooo Big!

I just recently switch to Vista as well and am running across an annoying thing. When I open or save a file in any application the file manager window is sooo big that it takes up most of my 30" screen! I keep resizing it but that doesn't do any good. Every time it just keeps opening big.

Does anyone know of a switch or setting that controls this?
It would be very helpful.
