Default Floppy Disk won't flop!

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 P4 Processor 1.3GHz, 1 GB RDRAM, 32 bit operating system. A few years ago I recorded some documents on floppies but haven't used them until now. I put the disks in and nothing happens. I've tried several. Recently I replaced my CD Drive with a CD/DVD Drive. I also cleaned off my hard drive and installed Windows Vista Home Premium.
When I check my Devices I find the Floppy Drive and Floppy Controller listed. When I try to have them update themselves, they do something, but always comback: "Device is working properly. This is the lastest upgrade for this device."
What could be wrong? Any suggestions appreciated.
